As Much As 100,000 Undocumented Migrants In T&T
Trinidad and Tobago is being labeled as a top location for illegal immigrants.
This, according to a Swiss group known as the Global Detention Project.
The information was revealed in an online report entitled “Trinidad and Tobago Immigration Detention Profile.”
In the report, the Project said there are currently 100,000 undocumented migrants living in this country.
The report deemed Trinidad and Tobago as one of the wealthiest countries in the Caribbean that has framed efforts to increase detention and deportation as a matter of national security.
The Report said in 2014, the Immigration Detention Centre held 131 foreign nationals, with Jamaicans reportedly making up the largest portion followed by Guyanese and Africans.
The Global Detention Project also listed persons from Venezuela and Guyana to be frequent unauthorised immigrants due to this country’s economic success.
