$1.6 million in cannabis seized in Tobago, no one arrested.
Officers seized a “significant quantity” of cannabis in Tobago late on Monday night as part of their ongoing efforts to combat criminal activity on the island.
Between 9 pm and midnight officers from the Guard and Emergency Branch, Inter-Agency Task Force, and Canine Unit conducted an operation in the Crown Point district.
While on Pigeon Point Road, they noticed a white Nissan Tiida parked in a poorly lit area along the beachfront.
With the assistance of the Canine Unit, officers searched the vehicle and discovered a multi-coloured crocus bag containing 48 rectangular packages wrapped in brown plastic, as well as a red bag containing seven black rectangular packages, all filled with cannabis.
The total weight of the packages was 29.7 kg, with an estimated street value of $1,600,000. Officers seized the packages and transported them to the Crown Point police station.
