New initiative links Tobago artists with German universities, exhibitions
Two agreements have been signed for long-term collaboration between Tobago’s art sector and German academic and cultural institutions.
The Environmental Research Institute Charlotteville (ERIC) recently hosted a Figurative Arts Workshop with funding from the German Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad, under the German Federal Foreign Office’s Cultural Preservation Programme.
The workshop brought together Professor Nils Norman, from the Academy of Fine Arts, Munich, and Lydia Tulloch-Déhee, representative of the Caribbean Art Collection, Berlin, and gifted artists from the North-East Tobago Biosphere Reserve, THA officials and the Tobago Biosphere Management Alliance.
This initiative aims to honour Tobago’s outstanding cultural and natural heritage, strengthen the fine arts sector within the North-East Tobago UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, and promote local talent while addressing cultural identity preservation.
The collaboration also contributes to achieving Sustainable Development Goals by fostering sustainable livelihoods.
Contributions at the workshop established connections and culminated in the signing of two agreements for long-term collaboration between Tobago’s art sector and German academic and cultural institutions focussing on knowledge transfer, fine arts development, facilitation of exhibitions, documentation of North-East Tobago’s authentic cultural heritage, and student exchange programmes.
