Orsi assured that he will evaluate recognizing Edmundo González as president
The elected president of Uruguay, Yamandú Orsi, described this Monday the diplomatic relationship with Venezuela as complicated and assured that will evaluate recognizing Edmundo González Urrutia as president.
«The diplomatic relationship is complicated. It is a slow and work process. The most important thing always between countries is to accept the diplomatic relationship. “We have relations with countries that have nothing to do with our way of life and politics, and there is nothing new,” he expressed in statements to the press.
When asked if he will recognize Edmundo González Urrutia as elected president of Venezuela, Orsi responded: «We will see, when we sit down with our people from the chancellery to see what state the relationships are in because I know it is complicated.

Uruguay is one of the seven Latin American countries whose diplomatic representatives were expelled by the Venezuelan Executive last Julyin rejection of his “interference actions and statements” regarding the proclaimed re-election of Maduro in the elections held that month.
The current Uruguayan government does not recognize Maduro as elected president, but does recognize González Urrutia, and maintains that there is a “dictatorship” in Venezuela.

Unitary Platform hopes that Orsi will show solidarity in the fight for Venezuela’s transition
The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) said this Monday that it hopes that the next Uruguayan government – headed by Yamandú Orsi – will show solidarity in the fight to “consolidate the peaceful transition” in Venezuela after the July 28 elections.
