Unitary Platform hopes that Orsi will show solidarity with Venezuela
The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) said this Monday that it hopes that the next Uruguayan government – headed by president-elect Yamandú Orsi- show solidarity in the fight to “consolidate the peaceful transition” in Venezuela after the elections of July 28, when – according to the coalition – there was “fraud” in the proclaimed victory of Nicolás Maduro.
«We Venezuelans continue to fight for freedom and true democracy in our country«, expressed the PUD through X, which ensures that its candidate, Edmundo González Urrutia – exiled in Spain – was the elected president on July 28.
Likewise, he considered it necessary to continue and deepen integration and protection policies for the “more than 40,000 Venezuelan migrants” who “fled the crisis” in Venezuela and are in Uruguay.
Orsi, candidate of the Frente Amplio, became the third left-wing president in the history of Uruguay by defeating Álvaro Delgado, of the National Party, by just over 90,000 votes, so he will succeed Luis Lacalle on March 1, 2025. Pou.
Uruguay is one of the seven Latin American countries whose diplomatic representatives were expelled by the Venezuelan Executive last Julyin rejection of his “interference actions and statements” regarding the proclaimed re-election of Maduro in the elections held that month.
The current Uruguayan government does not recognize Maduro as elected president, but does recognize González Urrutia, and maintains that there is a “dictatorship” in Venezuela.
