Charges re-laid against seven police officers

The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) has confirmed that all charges against the seven officers previously discharged in the case of misbehaviour in public office have been re-laid.

In a media release, the TTPS confirmed that the officers are now expected to reappear in court to face the charges.

Last week, a high-profile case involving seven police officers accused of extorting businessmen in Sangre Grande collapsed in the Port-of-Spain North A Court, with all charges against them dismissed.

The case was initially dismissed on November 18, due to procedural issues and is currently under investigation.

Following discussions with the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the TTPS received advice to re-lay charges against the accused officers.

Police Commissioner Erla Harewood-Christopher stated, “The re-laying of these charges demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that justice is served. The TTPS will continue to work closely with the office of the DPP to ensure the proper determination of these matters.”
