The fare increase will come into effect on December 1st.
Starting Sunday, December 1, 2024 An increase in urban fares will come into force. The minimum rate will be 16 to 18 bolivars and 10 bolivars for the State’s public transportation operators, amounts that represent less than 0.40 cents on the dollar at the official rate.
The official maximum fare for suburban routes throughout the country will be 16 to 43 bolivars. This will depend on the kilometers (km) of the route, with 10 km being the shortest route and more than 91 km being the longest.
The information was published in the Official Gazette No. 43,013 dated November 22, 2024, but shared on Tuesday, November 26
The transport union has been demanding that the government increase the urban fare by 25 bolivars, so this adjustment by the authorities does not meet their expectations.
The Official Gazette It also establishes that women over 55 years of age, men over 60 years of age and people with disabilities may travel without paying a ticket. Students will have a 50% discount.
“Transporters are urged to fully comply with the rates established here; Otherwise, they will be subject to the application of measures such as the suspension of driver’s licenses by the competent authorities and the suspension of agreed benefits, among other measures provided for in the regulations that regulate the matter and its sanctioning regime, following due process,” reads Article 6 of the document.
In an ordinary session, the Municipal Chamber of Zamora responded to the call from public transportation users regarding the illegal collection of fares.
The vice president of the collegiate body, councilor Ronald Figueroa, highlighted that the lines are charging illegal fares, going against what is authorized by the National Institute of Land Transportation (INTT).
Figueroa highlighted what was established in the Official Gazettel 43,013 on the increase in faresaccording to which the minimum internal fare on urban routes ranges between 16 and 18 bolivars, so those who charge 20 bolivars incur illegality. However, the transport union maintains that it is difficult to give change to users because the 1 and 500 bolivar bills are viewed with displeasure by users and transporters. In that sense, they argue, there is no way for drivers to give change or for people to have the 18 bolivars.
