Venezuelan activists attended the 23rd Assembly of States Parties to the Rome Statute, in The Hague, where they demanded that the Prosecutor’s Office of the International Criminal Court (ICC) act “without delay” in the face of crimes against humanity perpetrated in Venezuela.

«We are here because the Venezuela I cause must advance. The crimes against humanity committed by the Chavista tyranny cannot go unpunished. The evidence is clear, compelling and continues to accumulate. We cannot allow any more delays. The victims and their families deserve justice. And we will not rest until those responsible are called for investigation and the arrest warrants that the world is waiting for are issued,” said Elisa Trotta, general secretary of the Argentine Forum for the Defense of Democracy (FADD).

Lawyer Tomás Farini Duggan, legal representative of the FADD, maintained that “It is evident that justice cannot continue to be postponed”.

«As happened in Argentina with the case based on the principle of universal jurisdiction, it is time for the International Criminal Court to act. There is enough evidence to proceed. International legality must prevail and guarantee that these crimes are not forgotten. “We are here to insist that justice be done and to support the victims in this process,” said Farini Duggan.

Víctor Navarro, from the NGO Voces de la Memoria, stated that the message from the international community must be clear: “Enough of crimes against humanity continuing to be committed. Enough of Maduro continuing to underestimate the victims and human rights defenders. Enough political persecution. We will be here until the arrest warrants are issued.until all the torture centers close, until all the political prisoners are released and until Venezuela is free.

The activists participated in a simultaneous event with the Assembly of States Parties, which was also attended by Paolina Massidda, senior lawyer at the ICC’s Independent Victims’ Advocacy Office; Joanna Frivet and Santiago Cantón, from the Panel of Experts of the Organization of American States (OAS) on crimes against humanity; Rodrigo Diamanti, president of the NGO Un Mundo Sin Mordaza, and Santiago Rocha, son of the lawyer and political prisoner Perkins Rochawho exposed the serious violations of human rights that occur in Venezuela.
