Seven arrested in Manzanilla after police involved shooting
Seven men were arrested following a shoot-out with police during a house search on Calypso Road, Manzanilla, yesterday.
Police from the Northern Division Task Force went to search the house for firearms and ammunition. When they arrived, they saw a group of people outside. As police vehicles approached, several people ran towards the back of the house. The officers chased them, and one man allegedly pointed a gun at them. Fearing for their lives, the officers fired their weapons.
The officers eventually subdued two men. They found a 27-year-old Spanish national with a magazine containing seven rounds of nine-millimeter ammunition in his pants pocket. Another Spanish national, 36, was holding a bandana. After he dropped it, officers discovered a hand grenade inside.
The grenade was removed by the Explosive Detection and Disposal Unit.
Both men had gunshot wounds to their legs and were taken to the hospital where they are in stable condition. A search of the house uncovered a Taurus nine-millimeter pistol with two magazines and six rounds of ammunition. The police also arrested five other men in their thirties.
