‘Landlord charged for sexual penetration of a minor’

A 73-year-old businessman received bail set at $500,000 with a $50,000 surety when he appeared in the Port-of-Spain North A High Court on August 15, 2024.
The businessman, facing three counts of sexual penetration, appeared before Magistrate Margaret Sookraj-Goswami. She imposed several bail conditions, including a ban on any direct or indirect contact with the victim. Additionally, he must report to a specified police station once a week between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m.
The court has scheduled the next hearing for October 29, 2024.
Police reports indicate that, between March 27, 2024, and April 30, 2024, the landlord allegedly had sex with his 17-year-old tenant on three different occasions at her home.
Police received the report on July 18, 2024. Officers from the Special Victims Department investigated the case and arrested the man on August 14, 2024. W/Insp Ag Jacob oversaw the investigation.
