On the grounds of national security the Cabinet has decided to replace the existing TT100 dollar bill with a new one which will have additional security features and is designed to assist the visually impaired.
The newly designed note will be printed on polymer paper.
The new note is part of a national security measure which will assist in the fight against corruption, money laundering, tax evasion and counterfeiting.
At 4:00 p.m. today the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago will release and publish on its website additional information on the new TT 100 dollar note.
People with the existing TT 100 dollar bill will be required to exchange it for the new polymer notes to be issued by the Central Bank.
Tomorrow legislation will be taken to the House of Representatives and on Saturday there will be special sitting of the Senate to carry out a simple amendment to the Central Bank Act.
The Central Bank will handle the administration and implementation of the new TT 100 dollar note.
The Ministries of National Security and Finance will provide support to ensure this transition takes place in an orderly fashion.
