Amnesty International demanded to “stop the harassment” against Provea
This Tuesday, Amnesty International demanded that the administration of Nicolás Maduro and other authorities in the country “stop the harassment” against the non-governmental organization (NGO) Provea.
This statement arises in rejection of the summons against the General Coordinator of Provea, Óscar Murrillo, to declare this Wednesday the headquarters of the Scientific, Criminal and Criminal Investigations Corps (Cicpc) in Caracas, for an alleged investigation based on the Law Against Hate.
“Provea has worked tirelessly to expose and condemn the serious human rights violations and possible crimes against humanity committed by the government of Nicolás Maduro over the years,” the organization highlighted in a statement.
For Amnesty International, recent events and frequent complaints by Provea “raise serious concerns of a potential imminent arrest of Oscar Murillo”, due to the history and “widespread practice of arbitrary detentions” of human rights defenders.
