Asylum opponent alerts about the situation in the Argentine Embassy
Omar González, one of the six opponents granted asylum since March in the residence of the Argentine embassy in Venezuela, warned this Sunday of the critical situation they are experiencing in the building – under the diplomatic protection of Brazil. They denounce a continuous siege since last November 23.
“We issue an urgent alert to the national and international community about the critical situation faced by six persecuted political asylum seekers in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, under the protection of Brazil,” he expressed in x González, close collaborator of the opposition leader María Corina Machado.

This Saturday, Pedro Urruchurtu and Magalli Meda – also asylum seekers – reported that a week had passed since the siege on the outskirts of the property.
Urruchurtu reported to EFE that since Monday they are without electricity after the reported theft of electrical fuses. He pointed out that they do not allow access to a tanker truck with drinking water to replenish what was consumed from the residence’s tank, which – he stated – ran out this Saturday, after several days of rationing its contents.
The Democratic Unitary Platform (PUD) this week called for international pressure to stop the “criminal siege” and “safe conduct is issued as soon as possible for the six companions,” including Claudia Macero, Humberto Villalobos – collaborators of the Vente Venezuela party. , led by Machado- and former minister Fernando Martínez Mottola, advisor to the alliance.
The six opponents entered the diplomatic headquarters after the Prosecutor’s Office accused them of several crimes, such as conspiracy and treason.
Since August, the Argentine embassy remains under the protection of Brazil – after the expulsion of the diplomats from the southern country -, even though the administration of Nicolás Maduro revoked this authorization in September due to the alleged planning of terrorist acts inside the headquarters. by the asylum seekers.
Machado urges the international community to act
For his part, Machado urged the international community this Sunday to “act now” in the face of the “torture” that, as he denounced, there is against the six anti-Chavistas who have taken refuge since March in the residence of the Argentine Embassy.
“Things must be called by their name: what is happening today in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas, under the protection of Brazil, is torture in Argentine territory,” said the former deputy on social networks.
Machado assured that Pedro Urruchurtu, Magalli Meda, Omar González, Claudia Macero, Humberto Villalobos and former minister Fernando Martínez Mottola “remain isolated, without water, without light and surrounded by regime forces that intensify the harassment.”
“The democratic world must act now,” he added and claimed to be in hiding within the country, fearing for his “life.”
