Blinken and Parolin condemned the repression in Venezuela

He American Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, He met this Wednesday with his counterpart from the Holy See, Cardinal Pietro Parolin, to discuss the ceasefire plan in Lebanon and the war in Ukraine and jointly condemned the repression in Venezuela and Nicaragua.

Blinken met with Parolin, Secretary of State of the Holy See, and with Archbishop Paul Richard, Secretary of Relations with States, reported State Department spokesman Matthew Miller.

The representatives of The United States and the Holy See “condemned the current political repression in Nicaragua and Venezuela”according to the statement from the American spokesperson.

“They discussed the recently announced ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and the opportunity to build to de-escalate tensions and resolve conflicts in the region,” while “reaffirming the shared commitment to addressing the horrific impact on Ukrainian civilians during the defense of Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Blinken celebrated the Pope’s commitment to “advance the basic rights and dignity of LGTBQI people.”

This visit takes place to coincide with Blinken’s trip to Rome as part of a round of G7 ministerial meetings.
