Cops seize over $1.8M worth of cannabis in Cunupia supermarket
Police seized over $1.8 million worth of cannabis and arrested one suspect during an operation in Cunupia yesterday, the Police Service has confirmed.
A statement from the TTPS reports that police officers received information that led them to conduct surveillance on a supermarket located at Cereza Circular, Cunupia. The business was kept under surveillance between 3 pm and 6 pm on Wednesday (November 20, 2024).
According to reports, the officers entered the establishment where they encountered a 37-year-old man. They then proceeded to search the premises.
The TTPS statement reports that while searching the rear of the storeroom, the officers discovered a transparent crocus bag containing multiple packets of what appeared to be packets of cannabis.
The TTPS says the 33 packets found and seized had a combined weight of 17 kilograms, with an estimated street value of $1,865,699.
The man was arrested and taken to the Arima Police Station for processing, along with the illegal narcotics.
Enquiries are continuing
The operation was coordinated by ACP Singh and W/Snr. Supt. Maynard Wilson, and supervised by W/Sgt. Ramai, in collaboration with the Arima Operations/Intelligence Team.
