Edmundo González rules out forming a government in exile

The opposition leader Edmundo González Urrutia He ruled out this week that he plans to be sworn in as president on January 10 outside of Venezuela. and form a government in exile.

During an interview with journalist Idania Chirinos for NTN24, González stated that his “swearing-in will be in the terms of the Constitution, in Venezuela, before the legislative bodies that are approved to carry out that swearing-in.”

When asked about how he will return to the country in January, he said that he has a planbut he will not make it public due to threats from the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello, who assured that they are ready to arrest him if he returns.

“These plans are not revealed, because they already told me that they had a delegation waiting for me,” he said.

The United States recognized the standard-bearer of the majority opposition on Tuesday for the first time in publicEdmundo González Urrutia, as elected president of Venezuela after the July 28 elections.

«The Venezuelan people spoke out forcefully on July 28 and named Edmundo González as president-elect. “Democracy demands respect for the will of the voters,” said Secretary of State Antony Blinken on social media.

González Urrutia thanked Washington for the measure and maintained that it is support for Venezuelans.

«We deeply appreciate the recognition of the sovereign will of all Venezuelans. This gesture honors our people’s desire for change and the civic feat that together we carried out on July 28,” González Urrutia wrote in his X account.
