Hydrometeorological engineer Valdemar Andrade It is expected that in September the rains are quite extreme, especially due to the increase in tropical waves in the northern coastal region of the country.

In fact, the month began with heavy rainfall that has caused flooding of streets and homes, overflowing of rivers and streams and traffic congestion on the main roads of Caracas. This continued pattern of heavy rainfall could exacerbate existing problems.
The expert from the Central University of Venezuela pointed out, in an interview with Union Radio, August was an extremely rainy month, with 239 millimeters of rain, a little more than double the normal amount. “That’s why this month is considered an extremely rainy month,” Andrade said.
He also warned of possible landslides in risk areas:
“When so much rain falls, and the number of days with rainfall also increases, there is a greater opportunity for that rain to infiltrate into the soil. Soils become saturated and lose cohesion. And in wet soils where there are steep slopes or very unstable geology, movements or landslides can occur,” he said.
