Jamaica triumphs over England to win inaugural Vitality Netball Horizon series
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Jamaica emerged victorious in the deciding match of the inaugural Vitality Netball Horizon Series, defeating England 61-53 to clinch the series 2-1 and claim the championship title.
The closely contested series began with a thrilling draw in the opening game, followed by England’s 55-47 win in Manchester during the second match. However, Jamaica bounced back with a nail-biting 50-49 victory in Kingston, setting the stage for a dramatic finale.
England started strong in the decisive match, taking a four-goal lead after the first quarter with a 15-11 scoreline. Jamaica, however, rallied to level the game and surged ahead just before halftime, holding a 28-26 advantage.
The second half saw both teams battling fiercely, with England staying within striking distance at 42-39 entering the final quarter. But Jamaica turned up the intensity in the closing stages, dominating the fourth quarter to build an eight-goal cushion before sealing the match 61-53.
Romelda Aiken-George was the standout performer for Jamaica, netting an impressive 40 goals from 43 attempts. Shanice Beckford provided strong support with 21 goals from 25 attempts.
For England, Olivia Tchine delivered a stellar performance, scoring 42 goals from 47 attempts, while Lois Pearson added 11 from 13 attempts.
