Machado criticizes ambassador accredited in Caracas: “There is no possible neutrality”
The leader of the opposition, María Corina Machadocriticized an ambassador accredited in Caracas, whom he did not identify, for having called on the members of his community to be “equidistant” from the situation in the country.
Machado, in a message on his account on
As a reflection, the politician asked the diplomat what it means to be equidistant, and listed some of the situations in the country that would prevent being neutral: “Ignore that Maduro lost the election by more than 40% of the votes and they refused to publish the results? Ignore that 2,000 Venezuelans were arrested, including 198 children and adolescents? Ignore that they have tortured, sexually abused and murdered detainees?”
A few hours ago, an Ambassador accredited in Caracas publicly stated that the members of his community must remain “equidistant” from the actions of the Maduro regime and the issues that “divide the country.”
What does it mean to be “equidistant”, Mr. Ambassador?

After mentioning these and other problems of the political crisis, Machado stressed that the country is not divided on these issues, because, as was demonstrated on July 28, “there is a united people that longs to live with dignity, justice and freedom, and that bravely confronts a criminal tyranny in a terminal phase.”
The opposition leader warned that whoever decides to remain silent in the face of reality chose the side of the oppressor. “Venezuelans and history will judge mercilessly,” he said.
Machado asked the unidentified ambassador to listen to the testimony of Mariana Gonzaleza detained teenager who sent a letter to her mother saying “I would rather kill myself than continue suffering.”
“Explain to your mother that ‘her duty’ is to be ‘equidistant’ between those who torture her daughter and Mariana,” concluded the opponent.
