One man is dead and two women were injured following a shooting this morning as their car was blocked on the highway and gunmen opened fire on them in Santa Rosa.
The deceased was identified as Julio Layne, of Temple Street, Arima. The female victims, aged 32 and 24, are both from Pineapple Drive, Valencia. The trio was said to have been returning to Arima after liming at the Brick House Bar, Valencia – when they were run off the road and ambushed.
Layne, who was described as a priority offender was seated in the front passenger seat of the silver grey B-15 driven by the 32-year-old woman.
The second woman had been seated behind Layne. The occupants were reportedly proceeding west along the Churchill Roosevelt Highway when upon reaching Santa Rosa, they were intercepted by an unknown vehicle which sped past them and then forced them off the road.
The driver was forced to pull to the side causing her vehicle to veer off the roadway and collide with a guard rail as gunmen opened fire on them. It was alleged that Layne got out of the car and attempted to run and was shot multiple times.
He was found lying on the road, while the 24-year-old woman was found bleeding in the back seat from ten gunshot wounds about the body. The driver was not shot but was injured as a result of the crash.
A total of 47 spent casings were recovered, with some bearing the markings TTR on them.
