Oropouche East MP Dr Roodal Moonilal has questioned how Energy Minister Stuart Young received documents meant to be under the purview of an independent evaluation committee chaired by T&T’s UK High Commissioner Vishnu Dhanpaul, regarding the sale of the Pointe-a-Pierre refinery.

Moonilal spent time during his Budget presentation raising concerns about Young’s claims that the Oilfields Workers’ Trade Union’s (OWTU) Patriotic Energies Company Limited submitted a fraudulent document showing a US$1.5 billion wire transfer in the refinery bidding process.

Despite the OWTU’s dismissal of the allegation, Dr Moonilal said it was suspicious that the minister had the document.

“How did the minister get wind of a wire transfer involving an impartial and independent evaluation committee? The minister has to tell us, how did this happen? Did you enter the room of the evaluation committee? By accident, you were in White Hall, and you entered the wrong room and they were looking at documents that Patriotic submitted?”
