No confidence motion into Siparia mayor delayed

The much-anticipated motion of no confidence Motion of against Siparia Mayor Doodnath Mayrhoo will not be heard this month, as UNC Mon Desir councillor Deryck Bowrin failed to provide the required seven days’ notice. 

Explaining the delay during an interview on Sunday, Bowrin acknowledged that the timeline for this month’s debate had lapsed. 

“It will be debated at the next statutory meeting next month. Don’t let the mayor rile you up like he wants me to file it on his timing. I have to make sure I cover my bases, but I am still filing the motion,” Bowrin said. 

However, Mayrhoo expressed surprise that the motion would not be debated this month. 

“Councillor Deryck Bowrin had indicated he would bring a no-confidence motion at the end of this month. The time frame for bringing that motion was last week, but no seven-day notice was given.

As a result, the motion will not be laid at the next statutory meeting on Wednesday,” Mayrhoo explained. Mayrhoo, who must approve the motion, said he is ready to do so. “I am waiting for it because I have some issues I want to deal with when the debate happens. I have evidence to produce that will make your blood crawl, so I eagerly await the motion of no confidence,” he added. Meanwhile, UNC Alderman Victor Roberts accused the mayor of acting as a “law unto himself.” Roberts said the discord began when the mayor arranged for a private backhoe and truck to remove material from a government stockpile without council approval.

“I want you to ask the mayor to produce a document showing there was no equipment available at the corporation, forcing him to use private machinery. If that was the case, it would have been documented,” Roberts said. Roberts also denied claims that he and Bowrin had aspirations to become mayor. “He should know that we are more qualified than him. He wears the gold chain proudly, but he should be careful he doesn’t end up with a pair of bracelets on his wrists that aren’t the same colour as his chain. The mayor cannot act as a law unto himself, taking a private truck to a government stockpile and removing material.

While the material is purchased for an electoral district, there are rules to follow,” Roberts said. He also referred to a past incident where former UNC councillor Jason Ali reported materials stolen from the Fyzabad station. “It took a report and investigation for us to know the mayor was the culprit,” Roberts alleged. However, Mayor Mayrhoo has maintained that residents hired the backhoe and truck.

An investigation has now been launched into why outdated corporation documents were dumped in an illegal stockpile.

According to a corporation official, the documents were infested with cockroaches and could not be shredded. They were reportedly ordered to be dumped at the Guapo landfill, but the driver instead disposed of them at a site in Palo Seco.
