(PHOTOS) Venezuelans demand that the ICC act against crimes committed by the Maduro government: vigilantes or accomplices?

  • Dec, Sun, 2024

Some 60 cities joined the call for protests by opposition leader María Corina Machado this December 1. With banners, hands and faces painted with red ink, Venezuelans demanded that the International Criminal Court speed up the Venezuela I judicial process against the government of Nicolás Maduro for crimes against humanity: violation of human rights, repression and arbitrary detentions.

The International Criminal Court opened an investigation into the situation in Venezuela in 2021 and in March decided to move forward with the investigations. After three years, the ICC has still not announced the opening of a specific case against any defendant or the request for arrest warrants. This led to the Public Office for the Defense of Victims (OPCV) of the International Criminal Court (ICC) to present a brief on November 22, 2024 with strong questions regarding the lack of progress by prosecutor Karim Khan. .

These are some images left by the global protest of Venezuelans so that justice can begin to be applied.
