Relatives of prisoners in El Rodeo II and III prison reported violation of human rights during search
Relatives of the prisoners in the El Rodeo II and III Judicial Confinement Center in Guatirelocated in the state of Miranda, denounced that during the search that took place on Friday, November 22, the authorities violated the human rights of the detainees. Furthermore, a day later they reported on a strong militarization in the surroundings.
The relatives of those detained in the extensions of the El Rodeo II and III prison They denounced humiliation of those detained during the so-called Gran Cacique Guaicaipuro operation in a letter sent to Nicolás Maduro, to the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez; Attorney General Tarek William Saab; to the Minister of the Interior and Justice, Diosdado Cabello and to the Minister of Popular Power for Penitentiary Services, Julio García Zerpa.
Allegedly, officials from the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence (Dgcim), Bolivarian National Police (PNB) and Bolivarian National Guard (GNB) committed acts against the physical and psychological integrity of the prisoners during the operation.
They indicated that The prisoners were victims of physical abuse, destruction of personal belongings and deprivation of food.for which the relatives called on the authorities to immediately stop the violence against those deprived of liberty, guarantee respect for human rights, carry out an exhaustive investigation to determine who was responsible and establish sanctions.
They also requested that measures be implemented to improve confinement conditions at the Boarding School, including access to adequate food, medical care and hygiene conditions.
Strong militarization in the surroundings of El Rodeo II and III
One day after the search at the El Rodeo II and III prison, surrounding residents and relatives of the prisoners reported a strong military deployment in the areas surrounding the prison located in the Zamora municipality of Miranda state.
The situation generated uncertainty among the relatives of the prisoners, including those detained for political reasons who are in this prison, since weekend visits were suspended. Furthermore, among the residents of the area there was a lot of fear due to the presence of large commissions from the GNB, PNB and hooded officials from the Dgcim.
“We closely follow complaints from relatives about possible military deployment and we demand that the State respect the physical and psychological integrity of people deprived of liberty and their families,” wrote the NGO Provea on its X account.
The Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners also reported the situation and held the State responsible for the integrity of the citizens detained there.
Andreina Baduel, whose brother Josnars Baduel is imprisoned in El Rodeo I, also confirmed the militarization, however, the reason for the deployment was never clarified.
