Shawn Pouchet elected Aquatics Sports Association president

SHAWN Pouchet is the new president of the Aquatics Sports Association of Trinidad and Tobago (ASATT).

Pouchet’s slate won seven of the ten contested executive positions, with the vote for second vice-president ending in a tie.

The new executive will serve a four-year term in charge of the nation’s swimming affairs, locally and internationally.

Altogether, 40 members voted.

Pouchet, of Blue Dolphins Swim Club, is the first former athlete to lead ASATT in over 30 years. He represented TT in swimming, water polo and open-water events. He has over 15 years’ experience as a swim coach and also led teams at the Youth Olympics, Commonwealth Youth Games and Carifta Games.

Immediate past president Lindsay Gillette, who was at the helm from 2010-2013 and then 2018-2024, did not seek re-election. Previous first vice-president Joseph McLeod also did not seek re-election.

Mendoza, Gil and Le Blanc were the only winners from the opposing slate, which was led by their presidential candidate Alicia Casimir.

Marlene Blair-Belfon: assistant secretary/treasurer

Gresha Gonzales: ordinary member.
