Steelpan is More Beautiful ensemble finals on August 17
The Steelpan is More Beautiful – Canopeum Amoris competition continues, with the ensemble finals taking place on August 17 at Queen’s Hall, St Ann’s Road, Port of Spain.
It is scheduled to begin at 7 pm.
Six out of the 15 qualifying bands will vie for the title.
South band Golden Hands, whose bandleader, the late Franka Patricia Gillian Hills-Headley, died recently, took the lead during the qualifying round.
The band is used to being on winner’s row, and won the competition in its past format in 2013.
Belmont band Phoenix Steel Orchestra was the next top qualifier, earning 531 points.
St Margaret’s Super Stars earned 520 points to become one of the six finalists.
The competition is being held under the patronage of the Prime Minister. Dr Rowley attended the finals of the single pan category.
The qualifying round for the ensemble category began on August 2.
The qualifying round for the orchestra category began on August 13.
