Súmate demands freedom from its coordinator
The Súmate organization, focused on electoral issues, demanded this Tuesday the release of its national training coordinator, Nélida Sánchez, who has been detained for 100 days, a period during which – she assured – their constitutional rights.

Súmate reiterated that Sánchez must be released and demanded that the State repair the “moral and physical damages” suffered by the activist during her imprisonment. The organization denounced that during her detention fundamental rights have been violated such as “personal freedom, the presumption of innocence, access to a reliable legal defense, the right to be heard with guarantees and to be tried.” by an independent and impartial tribunal.
The case of the Súmate coordinator
On November 9, the NGO reported that a judge from an anti-terrorism court ordered the start of a trial against Sánchez based on what he described as a “forged police record.” According to the statement, this decision violated the right to due process and maintained five charges against him, based on evidence that the organization considers fabricated.
Sánchez was arrested by agents of the Bolivarian National Intelligence Service (Sebin) and faces accusations of terrorism, incitement to hatred, conspiracy, treason and association to commit a crime. The arrest occurred in the midst of a political crisis marked by the controversial re-election of Nicolás Maduro on July 28, a process that the main opposition coalition has denounced as fraudulent, along with an increase in “persecution” and “repression” by the government.
In September, the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) granted precautionary measures to Sánchezconsidering that he is in “a situation of seriousness and urgency of risk of irreparable damage to his rights.”
