Relatives of Carlos Eduardo Valecillo Ramírez, political prisoner held in Stumpreported that the young man tried to take his life early this Sunday, December 8.
Valecillo Ramírez was helped by his cellmates and then rushed to the prison infirmary, reported the Committee for the Freedom of Political Prisoners. However, little information is available.
Valecillo’s sister arrived at the prison hoping to see him and confirm his state of health. The young man had written a letter in which he expressed his wish to die due to his suffering.
“We demand that Carlos Valecillo’s family be given immediate access to the Tocorón prison,” urged the Committee. Political leaders such as María Corina Machado and civil organizations had requested that the young man receive medical attention.

They advocate for respect for the human rights of political prisoners
The organization Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón joined the call to allow the family to enter the prison to verify the health of the young man and accompany him; as well as his immediate release.
“The young man was arrested on July 29 by the General Directorate of Military Counterintelligence. His family had reported that he suffers from serious health problems, including depression and abscesses on his face that caused deformations and fever,” Justicia, Encuentro y Perdón denounced on social networks.
They added that, despite the critical state of health, the authorities have not offered medical assistance, violating their human rights.
“In a letter to his family he had warned of his intentions to make an attempt on his life. We remember that the Venezuelan State has the obligation to guarantee the health and well-being of all people in its custody, as established by the Constitution and the international human rights treaties ratified by Venezuela,” they noted.
We urge the authorities to allow Carlos Vallecillo’s family to enter the checkpoint to verify his state of health and accompany him in his recovery.
